"She Acts With Passion Fruits..."

I am more dramatic than usual this weekend and it has nothing to do with the 'America's Brilliant Miss Pageant'!

In Philidelphia there is a group of happy, fortunate souls gathering...they will share in a rare treasure that I was unable to join, this time around. They will take so much while feeling that they haven't given enough; they will feel as though no amount of time was sufficient to their needs...'Why?' you might ask; because being in the presence of one of the most talented of spirits always leaves one feeling this way.

Those of you who go to the cinema for more than just the junior mints, have been pleasured with intellectual and visual stimulation in such films as:

"Household Saints"
"The Whole Wide World"
"The Velocity of Gary..."

But those who have a director's keen eye and a dramatist's covetous reflection will have spotted more than one D'Onofrio. Don't ever think I would minimalize the Talent- with a capital "T"- of Mr. D'Onofrio...but this post is not about HIM... it is about the woman I refer to as 'a Grand Dame of the Stage/Arthouse/Indie films'. She is Writer, Producer, Instructor and when she acts...it is as though she carries the ripest passion fruits- the emotion is collective and heavy, with a vulnerability that is rare and candid; she affects you no matter how brief or close her character is to the scene. Sometimes she carries a singular fruit, weighted on a taunt thread around her neck...other times she walks ever so carefully so as not to spill or squish the bundle in her arms. Ah! But in "THE CHOCOLATE FETISH", she handed us one swollen, busted ovoid; whispered "Take care of this", then took our hand, allowing us to haunt the life of 'Christine'. She IS wonderful!

I will cease to pout, as I have 'charges' to cheer on this weekend. I must keep the Vaseline across my teeth, and my relative deprivation to myself(that one's for you Magia!). If you would like to know more about the 'Empress' of my acting pursuits, go to www.donofrioe.com .

See you in August, ELIZABETH!

In Italian passion fruit is called "granadiglia". In both Bahasa languages passion fruit are called "markisa"; in Portuguese they are called "maracuja". In Puerto Rico they are called "parcha"; in Hawaii they are called "lilikoi".

You will be with me while I am there and 'there', I will be a better learner, because of you. Thanks.
