The Love Interest, Introduction
This is a multi-sectioned examination of the foil of the hero in film.
I describe certain "love interests" in films as 'foils'. The noun FOIL is derived from the Middle English foilen< to trample or defile...to DEFILE something is "to debase the pureness or excellence of; corrupt" or even "to violate the chastity of". One does not fancy misogyny- I love myself too much!- but the two-dimensional feminine entities of the cinema would make most prejudging worshippers of the sterotype throw their hands up in fatigue ("ENOUGH!").
These women seem to be the poster girls for long-term counseling; Histrionic Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder (maybe even Cyclothymic Personality Disorder!) make neuroses the only constants in these characters. They hail from different cultures, races, economic backgrounds and religions....but they all make you feel like the movie would be sooo much better without them!
I plan on being the anti-hero if not the heroine in my breakout film...typecast THAT Hollywood!

FOIL - First, outside, inside, last. Algebra, right? Silly little way to 'multiply' 2 binomials.
Sorry...just avoiding grading. Where did this rant come from. The heat must be getting to you down there!
Take care!
